From the Provincial - New School Year

Dear Friends,

It is that time of year when nights begin to get cooler, the cicadas are buzzing their last symphonies, the days are getting shorter, and all of us are ready to welcome the start another school year!

Indeed, school has begun at our Province’s three schools: St. Martin de Porres Marianist School, Kellenberg Memorial High School, and Chaminade High School. Our combined enrollment is about five-thousand students! We take to heart each day the gospel parable of Jesus feeding five-thousand – except we generally don’t have 12 baskets of leftovers!

If you heard the phrase “under the influence” you would generally assume that to refer to a negative thing, as I would also. Yet, we can be “under the influence” of many positive things as well. Thanks to a recent homily I heard, I have suggested to our faculties and staffs this year that it would be good to be “under the influence” of the Holy Spirit! Allow the Spirit to infiltrate and penetrate your life – to the point that the gifts of the Spirit will begin to flow naturally through your words and actions. Allow yourself to be “under the influence” of the Spirit’s great love! That is the positive, life-giving influence we seek to instill in our schools and in each of our students and their families. We are all called to be witnesses to the transforming power of God’s love in our lives. Be a witness of the power of the Holy Spirit in the life of someone today.

This year we have expanded our vocation efforts and contacts. If you have not visited our blog, www.intothedeepblog.net, I encourage you to do so. It is a wonderful source of inspiration and provides daily reflections to consider on our spiritual journeys. Please share the blog with your friends and family, helping to spread our Marianist spirit even further!

St. John Mary Vianney said “It is only God that can fill the soul.” May our Founder Blessed William Joseph Chaminade continue to guide us in our efforts to live under the influence of the Holy Spirit and under the protection of the Blessed Mother.

Pray for vocations! Pray for each other! To Jesus through Mary!
