“Do not be afraid to go out on the streets and into public places, like the first Apostles who preached Christ and the Good News of salvation in the squares of cities, towns and villages. This is no time to be ashamed of the Gospel. It is the time to preach it from the rooftops. Do not be afraid to break out of comfortable and routine modes of living, in order to take up the challenge of making Christ known in the modern 'metropolis.' It is you who must 'go out into the by-roads' and invite everyone you meet to the banquet which God has prepared for his people. The Gospel must not be kept hidden because of fear or indifference. It was never meant to be hidden away in private. It has to be put on a stand so that people may see its light and give praise to our heavenly Father.”

Pope John Paul II

World Youth Day 1993

"Send numerous consecrated men and women, to show your holiness in the midst of the world.  Send holy laborers into Your vineyard, to labor with the fervor of charity..."

-- Pope John Paul II

The Province of Meribah welcomes young men who have graduated from high school to join them in their life of prayer, dedication to the common life, and mission of educating the young.

Program of Formation

Aspirancy

The Aspirancy begins the formal association of the candidate to the Marianist community, ordinarily expressed by his residence in a community.  This period of time allows the candidate and the community to evaluate and develop his vocation through an active involvement in communal living.  The Aspirancy allows the candidate to develop by investigating the Marianist way of life through formal study.  The Promises of the Aspirancy and the Reception of Habit mark the beginning of this period of growth and discernment.

Novitiate

The Novitiate begins the formal preparations for the profession of vows.  The novice actively participates in the community life.  His preparations for vows consists of an active prayer life, through investigation of theology, philosophy, and psychology, and cooperation with the direction of the Formation Staff.

Within the community, the Novice attends classes in the history of religious life, spirituality, and religious psychology.  At the end of the Novitiate, the Novice requests temporary vows after consultation with his spiritual director.

Temporary Profession

After the first profession of the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, the candidate may renew these vows annually for a minimum of three years and a maximum of seven before making the request for perpetual profession.  A silver ring is worn indicating this period of temporary profession.

Perpetual Profession

In consultation with his spiritual director, the temporary professed candidate makes application to the Provincial for perpetual profession.  The Provincial then conducts a consultation among the perpetually professed members of the province regarding the candidate's:

  • assimilation of the goals of the Society
  • assimilation into the community  in which he lives
  • strengths and weaknesses

The provincial, in consultation with his council, submits this request to the Superior General for ratification.  Those seeking the priesthood make their initial request at this time.

The Solemn profession of vows include poverty, chastity, obedience and stability.  By our vow of stability, we pledge to persevere in our commitment to our apostolic life  and work of the Society of Mary.
